LAHORE - Lahore DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf has said that the police are finalising a comprehensive security strategy to ensure peace during the holy month of Muharram. The police have launched search operations against suspected persons across Lahore on daily basis ahead of Muharram.

“We are also planning three-stage security strategy to maintain law and order before, during, and after Muharram,” Haider Ashraf said while addressing a meeting held at the Police Lines to review security arrangements on Friday. Lahore SP Security and all the divisional SPs attended the meeting.  The DIG directed the field officers to remain in close contact with the religious leaders and the organizers of Majalis and processions besides regular checking of those placed under the fourth schedule.  The police are also asked to ensure complete ban the use of loudspeaker besides proper security deployment in the sensitive and most sensitive areas.

The operations police chief further said that a central control room would be set up at the Operations police headquarters to monitor security situation minute-by-minute. According to him, Lahore Capital City Police Officer Capt (retired) Muhammad Amin Wains will personally monitor the security of mourning processions and Majalis in the provincial metropolis. The volunteers will be deployed at the security points after proper training while traffic police and lady police officials will also assist the district police in maintaining peace in Lahore.

OPEN COURTS: All the divisional SP’s arranged open courts in mosques located in their premises after Friday prayers. SP Iqbal Town Ammara Athar arranged open court in Jamia Masjid Sodiwal, SP City Asad Sarfraz Khan in Jamia Masjid Kot Shahaab Din, DSP Baghbanpura in Jamia Masjid Mehtaab Harbanspura, DSP and SHO Kahna arranged an open court in Jamia Masjid Railu Wali. The officers issued on the spot orders after listening to the complainants.
