LAHORE - A vague notification issued by PPP’s media office at Bilawal House Lahore announcing changes in party’scentral Punjab set up has puzzled the party men.

According to the notification, the leadership has decided that the party set up at the City, district and divisional levels in the central Punjab shall work under the provincial organisation headed by Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo who is the President of Punjab PPP (Central).

It also says that all allied wings including PSF, PYO, PLF, women wing, human rights wing, labour wing etc., located in the central Punjab, shall also work under Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo.

Many wonder why such a notification has been issued since all these cadres are already working under the command of Wattoo. There is no clarity in the notification about the fate of party’s Lahore chapter which enjoys the special status of a province in the party organisation like the Karachi chapter. Lahore chapter of the PPP has never worked under the provincial organisation.

There is also another ambiguity in the notification which has quoted Makhdoom Amin Fahim, President of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) as having directed to effect these changes in the party set up.

It merits mention here that Makhdoom heads the PPPP which is represented in the Parliament and the provincial assemblies. He is not authorised to take any decision in respect of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) which is registered separately with the Election Commission of Pakistan with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as its Patron-in-Chief. Name of Asif Ali Zardari is not mentioned in the list of PPP office-bearers submitted by its Secretary General Sardar Latif Khosa with the ECP.

In view of this, such notifications, if needed, could only be issued under the instructions of Bilawal Bhutto. No party leader was available to comment on this vagueness. Akram Shaheedi, who heads PPP’s media cell in Lahore, said that he was not aware of these intricacies. “I have only issued the Press release as received from Karachi”, he added.
