Rawalpindi - Pirwadhai police have arrested six alleged gamblers and seized stake money and equipment from their possession.

On tip-off, the police conducted a raid at the Pirwadhai General Bus Stand and arrested six gamblers and recovered seven liquor bottles, Rs 20,000 stake money and two 32-bore pistols from their possession. The alleged gamblers were identified as Khuram, Tahir, Haider, Bilal, Kamran and Kashif.

The police have shifted them to the local police station, registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, three armed persons have burgled a house within the airport police jurisdiction. Usman Ilyas, a resident of airport, lodged a complaint with the local police that three armed burglars including one woman and two men made their way into the house, held her mother hostage at gunpoint, made away with Rs 2,000 cash, unspecified weight of jewellery from the house, while other family members had gone out.

The police have registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, auto-thieves have stolen a motorcycle and a car in different incidents within the Airport police jurisdiction. Mohammad Akhtar, a resident, lodged a complaint with local police that auto-thieves have stolen his motorcycle RIM-3842, which was parked in his porch.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Liaquat, a resident of Airport, lodged a complaint with local police that unknown car-lifters have stolen his vehicle EF-322, which was parked in the parking lot of a local market, while he was shopping. The police have registered the cases and started investigation.

Meanwhile, city traffic police during its grand operation last month against overcharging by public vehicles challaned 342 vehicles and issued fine tickets of Rs 171,000. Chief Traffic Officer Shoaib Khurram said traffic wardens recovered the extra fare from the vehicles and returned it to the passengers.

He said the traffic police service special squad was checking bus stations and stops of different routes and taking action against those violating rules.
