Lahore - The Nation business boy has bagged three gold medals in Masters (Mass communication) from the University of Punjab.

Aamir Shahzad, working in the Nawa-i-Waqt Group marketing section for last few years, topped in the session 2011-13, making history in securing 4GPA in all the 22 subjects of the post graduation degree.

He was awarded Punjab University Gold Medal, Nasim Hijazai Gold Medal and Hamid Nizami Gold Medal by the PU vice chancellor, Dr Mujahid Kamran, during 123rd convocation on Saturday.

Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana was the chief guest of the occasion.

The university cancelled its 122nd convocation due to the tragic incident of APS Peshawar in which more than 140 people including about 132 children were killed by TTP terrorists.

Aamir, an Mphil student, has ambition of pursuing PhD in journalism for, what he believes, bringing right information to the public.

According to him, journalism is a noble profession for which he wants to play his part.

Aamir, who wants to continue Nizamis’ mission, says winning Hamid Nizami Medal is his biggest achievement.


The University of Punjab held its 123rd annual convocation on Saturday, in which 100 PhD, 618 MPhil/MS, 289 Master’s, 156 undergraduate degrees and 173 medals were distributed among the top scorers.

As many as 81 medals were distributed among undergraduate students while 92 medals were distributed among Master’s students. A total of 1336 degrees, medals and prizes were distributed in the convocation.

Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Additional Controllers Rauf Nawaz, Shahid Javed, deans of all faculties, heads of various departments, senior faculty members and a large number of degree holder students were present in ceremony.

Addressing the convocation at Faisal Auditorium, Dr Mujahid Kamran said the genocide of the Muslims is going on around the world, particularly in India, due to the reason they lack knowledge.

The VC stressed on the journalists and columnists to focus on the plight of Muslims in the world and highlight their problems. He added that prioritizing education was a matter of understanding for both the leadership and the people.

The United States has the GDP of 17 trillion dollars and is spending from 850 to 1000 billion dollars on education while 340 to 510 billion dollars on research and development, the VC added.

Pakistan’s total GDP is around 250 billion dollars while it is spending around 0.2 percent on research and development and less than 2 percent on education, he told the gathering.

He advised the students to demand politicians to allocate budget for education and health as per international standards when they reach them for vote. He congratulated the graduating students and advised them to help each other.

BISE Part-1 Result: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore has announced the result of Intermediate part-I annual examination 2015.

A total of 123172 candidates appeared in the examination while 69890 candidates declared successful thus the pass percentage remains 56.74. The successful candidates can check their results on the BISE website.
