ISLAMABAD -  The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) yesterday arrested a two -member gang of alleged fraudsters who were involved in looting people in the capital city by impersonating themselves as officers of Prime Minister Office and Ministry of Interior in connivance with Islamabad police.

The network had the support within Islamabad Police. FIA has registered a case against the accused and both were arrested from Motorways toll plaza with help of allied staff while trying to flee the city after they came to know that the agency was after them, said a senior officer of FIA.

An FIR number 34/16 under section 419/420/5(2)(47) of PPC has been registered against the two accused. While five officials of Islamabad police have also been nominated in the FIR and made part of the investigation. Their names have been kept secret at this stage.

According to preliminary investigations of FIA, a two-member gang comprising  Asif Chohan and Iftikhar were playing havoc in the city by cheating and de-frauding people by introducing himself as deputy director, Ministry of Interior and deputy director Prime Minister House. Both pretend themselves to be as the friend of people high offices like inspector general of police (IGP), Islamabad.

The same cheaters had a support network within Islamabad police and now FIA is investigating the case from all aspects, the officer said. One of the accused was seen using green number plate and even at times with a police escort.

The accused have already been already nominated in three cases of bounced cheques and so far six complaints have been placed on record against them in which they de-frauded more than Rs1.6 crore from people on different pretexts by presenting themselves as connected to high offices.

FIA has appealed to public at large to give any information about these two individuals and their activities to Inspector Khalid of FIA Islamabad Zone.
