Rawalpindi - A seminar titled ‘Psychology First Aid for All’ was organised at Institute of Psychiatry of Benazir Bhutto Hospital to mark World Mental Health Day yesterday.

Former Vice-Chancellor of University of Medical Sciences Prof Malik H Mubasshir was the chief guest at the seminar that was attended by people from all walks of life including mental health experts, young doctors and medical students.

Addressing the seminar, Prof Malik Mubashir said the patients of mental disorder deserved attention and care. Stressing the importance of community psychiatry, he said that more mental health treatment facilities should be provided to the women folk. Dr Mowadid Rana said the treatment of mentally disturbed patients is possible through medication and care, and for this purpose the mental condition of the patients and causes of their health problem should be kept in mind. He said, “We can alleviate the mental stress of trauma victims when we feel the gravity of their situation.” He stressed the need to give such patients attention. BBH Psychology Department head Prof Farid Minhas elaborated on emotional experiences that psychiatrists undergo during the treatment of mentally disturbed people. He said for this purpose a special programme has been arranged on which the action will be taken with the coordination of all stakeholders. He said, “We should play an active role in bringing about happiness to the people who are suffering from mental stress and trauma by lessening their deprivations and evoke the urge of living in them.”
