Taxila/wah cantt - Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Irfan Khan has said that three-layer security would be provided to Imambargahs, majalis and processions to ensure safety of mourners and avert any untoward incident during the holy month of Muharram.
He was talking to media persons after security audit of various Muharram processions routes and Imambargahs in twin cities of Taxila and Wah. Sub Divisional Police Officer Sajid Gondal was also present on this occasion.
He that a complete security plan has been marked out with the cooperation of district administration to dodge any unfortunate incident during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Responding to a question, he said that around 6,000 police officials, besides volunteers, will perform security duty during processions and Majalis.
He said that all encroachments in the vicinity of Majalis and mourning processions should immediately be removed, besides making arrangements to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity.
He said that religious harmony is vital for peace and it is the foremost duty of Ulema of all sects to come forward and play their due role in this regard.
He said that special identity cards would be issued to the security personnel performing Muharram duty so that their identity could be verified.
He said that for the first time the administration of Imambargahs has been involved in finalisation of the security plan and their suggestion were also given due attention in finalisation of arrangements.
Responding to a question, he ruled out that sectarian motives were behind the killing of two Shia Muslims near an Imambargah a few days back and termed the claims of responsibility of their killing by a banned outfit spokesman as baseless. He said police are investigating the double murder case with different angles.
Earlier during security audit, he directed the station house officers to personally monitor security arrangements for majalis and processions in their respective areas, besides giving regular briefings to the police personnel deployed on sensitive routes.
