I am shocked to know that dates are being sold in the range of Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kg in Karachi. The hike in date prices is being attributed to the holy month of Ramzan as the faithful think it a blessing to use dates in Iftar. I suppose if all Muslims started using salt for opening their fast instead of dates the traders would definitely start selling dates at lower prices. But that can be done only if we all resolve to abstain from having dates in Ramzan. -MUZNA KHAN, Karachi, via e-mail, August 30.
