ISLAMABAD (APP) - The inflation rates based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 10.93 per cent in July-August, 2009 as compared to the figures of the same period of last financial year, data provided by Federal Bureau of Statistics revealed. The inflation based of Sensitive Prices Indicator (SPI) and Wholesale Price Index (WPI) also witnessed increase of 9.38pc and 0.38pc respectively over Jul-Aug 2008. An analysis of data for three years for the same period indicates that CPI, SPI and WPI in July-August 2009 were lower as compared to last two years except CPI which was higher as compared to July-August, 2007. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation witnessed increase of 10.69pc during August 2009 as against the same month of last financial year, figures provided by Federal Bureau of Statistics revealed. The inflation based of Sensitive Prices Indicator (SPI) and Wholesale Price Index during the month under review increased by 9.03pc and 0.26pc as compared to the SPI and WPI of August 2008. The data analysis for three years for the same month indicates that CPI, SPI and WPI in August, 2009 were lower as compared to last two years except CPI which was higher as compared to August, 2007, the data revealed. However, as compared to July 2009, the monthly inflation rates based on CPI, SPI and WPI in August, 2009 increased by 1.70pc, 1.68pc and 2.21pc respectively. The main commodities, which showed an increase in their prices during August, 2009 over July, 2009 included vegetables(19.01pc), sugar (17.69pc), chicken(15.97pc), gur (11.24pc), pulse mash(10.15pc), pulse moong(4.46pc), gram whole(4.11pc), wheat(3.68pc), wheat flour(3.48pc), fish(2.72pc), meat(2.41pc), pulse gram (2.26pc), sweet meat and nimco (2.23pc), cigarettes(2.13pc), eggs (2.06pc), pulse masoor (2.00pc), fresh fruits(1.97pc), tea(1.89pc), dry fruits(1.84pc), maida(1.69pc), cereals(1.35pc) and besan(1.04pc). Similarly, prices of Silk, linen, woolen/cloth increased by 1.75pc and tailoring charges by 1.56pc. During the month under review prices of Kerosene increased by 3.54pc, firewood by 1.38pc, LPG by 0.66pc, plastic products by1.16pc, suitcase by 1.08pc, petrol by 8.07pc and diesel by 7.46 percent. The main commodities, which showed a decrease in their prices during August, 2009 over July, 2009 included tomatoes (29.51pc), onions (10.21pc), spices (7.22pc), potatoes (3.00pc) and vehicles by 2.3pc.
