RAWALPINDI (APP) - One protester was killed and several injured in clashes with police in Islamabad on Thursday. Several protesters and a cop were injured during clashes between protesters and police at Railway Carriage Factory. The incident took place as police intervened to clear roads blocked by Pakistan Railways employees during a protest demonstration. "The injured were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital, a police official told this news agency. He said that the PR Carriage Factory employees were protesting against non-payment of salaries for three months. They put hindrances on IJ Principal Road and as a result traffic on main Pir Wadhai Road as well as other routes was jammed at Iftar time. Police held negotiations with the protesters, however, they started pelting stones on police in which a Constable Muhammad Hanif was injured. Meanwhile, police also baton-charged protesters and fired tear-gas shells to disperse them, he added. Meanwhile, local TV channels showed footage of inside of Railway Carriage Factory in which youngsters were shown breaking office equipments, windowpanes and damaging property. A motorcycle was also set ablaze, sources added. So far first investigation report (FIR) of the incident including ransacking inside the Carriage Factory offices has not been registered, police said. One of the seriously injured protesting Railways Carriage Factory workers succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening. According to SSP Railways Police Javed Iqbal, a critically injured worker, recognised as Nauman, has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Meanwhile, the traffic jam at the IJP Road before the iftar caused huge sufferings to the citizens.
