QUETTA - A partial shutterdown and wheel-jam strike was observed in provincial capital and other parts of Balochistan on Thursday against the alleged firing of security personnel at a public gathering of Balochistan National Front (BNF) in the Tump area of Kech district earlier this week that killed a youngster and wounded several others including two women. The strike was observed on the call of the BNF which was also supported by other Baloch nationalist parties and student organisations. Strike remained partial in Quetta City as majority of shops were opened in main business centers of the City. However, shops remained closed in Sariab Road and Brewery Road areas. Unidentified people also set an official vehicle on fire at Brewery Road and pelted vehicles with stones. The administration had taken strict security measures as personnel of police backed by Frontier Corps, Balochistan Constabulary and Anti-Terrorist Force were deployed in different parts of Quetta while mobile squads of police and FC continued patrolling the City to avoid any unpleasant incident. The traffic remained thin on national highway connecting Quetta-Karachi, Quetta- Taftan and Sibi areas. A complete shutterdown was witnessed in various other parts of the province including Kalat, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Mangochar and others towns where people and traders gave a positive response to the call of strike and brought all their business activities to a standstill. The district administration had also adopted strict security measures in their respective districts. However, no untoward incident was reported from any district.
