RAWALPINDI - In a surprise move, an American friend and speechwriter of Benazir Bhutto Mark Siegel has become a prosecution witness in BB assassination case that is being heard by a local anti-terrorism court. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar, who is the member of Joint Investigation Team (JIT), has noted down the statement of Mark Siegel, who also runs a public relations company, in the United States of America. However, FIA Prosecutor could not produce the statement before the ATC on Saturday during the proceedings owing to absence of the defence lawyer. Mark Siegel, in his statement, told JIT that BB was worried after receiving a phone call from former President General (r) Pervez Musharraf while he was present with her at that time. General (r) Musharraf gave a warning to BB that she will be responsible for her own security if she returns before elections in Pakistan, Siegel added in his statement. FIA Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar informed that Mark Siegel would be presented before the court at proper time. Meanwhile, the court failed to frame charges against the accused as former city police officer Syed Saud Aziz has changed the lawyer and the new counsel has requested the court to give him some time to study the case. The court was informed that Aziz changed his lawyer and defence counsel wanted some time to prepare the case. Nonetheless, FIA Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfikar contradicted with the request, arguing that accused was using delaying tactics. Moreover, the court rejected the bail plea of BB murder accused Sher Zaman. The accused requested the court that he should be granted bail as he had been in prison for the last three years. The FIA Prosecutor apprised the court that bail plea of the accused was already rejected by the same court and high court. He said that the accused could not legally submit application in the trial court again.
