Qadri asked to submit written statement

RAWALPINDI - The Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi Number 2 Judge Syed Pervez Ali Shah Saturday asked Malik Mumatz Hussain Qadri, the self confessed killer of former governor Punjab Salman Taseer, to submit his defense in written under section 342 of Criminal Procedure Court (CrPC). The judge also handed over 12 written questions containing different allegations to Malik Mumtaz Qadri and asked him to prepare his defense and submit in the court on September 17, 2011 the next date of hearing of the case. During the trial, which held at Adyala Jail due to security reason, Malik Muhammad Raffique Advocate, Raja Tariq Dhanial Advocate, Raja Shujah-ur-Rehman Advocate and Syed Habib-ul-Haq Shah appeared on behalf of Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri whereas father and brother of the Qadri were also present in the courtroom. Raja Shujah-ur-Rehman Advocate, while talking to media men outside Adyala Jail, said that in the questionnaire, handed over by judge, Qadri was asked to tender the explanation for evidence appearing against him in court record and state his defense to the charge against him briefly. It is a compulsory practice to be carried out in every criminal trial. The answers to these questions will be submitted in the court on the next date of hearing. However, the defense counsel will decide whether they will tender any defense evidence, he added. On the other hand, the religious parties organised a Mehfil-e-Naat outside Adyala Jail and after held a protest demonstration for the release of Malik Mumtaz Hussan Qadri.
