ISLAMABAD - People are facing troubles in blocking the SIMs illegally issued in their names and neither they are not using them nor they got those connections issued from the service providers. It is learnt that when any person approaches any mobile company complaining that there are SIMs issued in his name illegally so he wants to block them or transfer it to his name, the cellular companies give very nice response generally but the issue sustains as the companies dont want to sacrifice their clients. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Telecom Authority has developed a SIM Information and Verification System (668) that offers the opportunity to the client to check whether or not there are other connections in his name. Through this service, a subscriber can send his CNIC to 668 through a SMS and in return he would receive detail of total SIMs against his CNIC along with name of the mobile company. In case of any discrepancy, the user can visit CSC along with original CNIC to get the data corrected. This campaign was a part of PTA efforts to block all illegal SIMs and clean the data of mobile users. But what is happening that there are many clients who are giving good business to the mobile companies but SIMs they are using are not registered in their names. So if the person whose name is being used by someone else approaches the service provider, it starts using delaying tactics. What they wait for is that the person using the SIM comes to them along with his CNIC so that they could convert the SIM to his/her name otherwise just blocking the SIM damage their business interests.
