ISLAMABAD - The 8th International Conference on Digital Information Management (ICDIM) 2013 was kicked off here on Tuesday.

Inaugurated by the Minister of State for Privatisation & Commerce and Textile, Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan, the conference is being organised by Islamia University of Bahawalpur in collaboration with IEEE Technical Management Society, USA, Digital Information Research Foundation, UK, and the local Organising Committee ICDIM 2013 from 10-12 September 2013.

The inaugural session was also attended by Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, executive director of the Higher Education Commission, vice chancellors of Allama Iqbal Open University and Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi. Delegates from across the globe and young scientists from every corner of the country will be presenting their research work in the field of digital information management at this three-day conference.

Addressing the attendees, the minister informed the participants that the government is very well aware of the importance of science and technology role in bringing transparency in governance and economic development. He further quoted that current federal cabinet is comprised of two engineering graduates who obtained their degrees from top ranked universities of the world.

This conference is technical in nature and sessions are comprised various lectures, workshops including recognition technologies used in everyday life like searching Google, Facebook, tweeting or using smartphones; robotics and its use in various industries in Pakistan like leather, defence and educational activities.
