ISLAMABAD - To mark the International Literacy Day, the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) under the aegis of Ministry of Education, Trainings and Standards in Higher Education arranged a walk on Tuesday. This day is celebrated globally on September 8 every year. The walk was attended by dignitaries from different walks of life including elected representatives, educationists, civil society members, students, volunteers, and NCHD staff members. The theme of the day was "Literary for 21st Century". The government has affiliated the day with the enrolment of out of school children and a massive campaign has been launched to enroll those children.

Senate Standing Committee on Education Chairman Abdul Nabi Bangash led the walk. He said the parliament has already been sensitised on the issue of education and serious efforts have been undertaken to make an educated Pakistan. He commended the NCHD efforts in the field of literacy and highlighted that NCHD has made about 3.5 million people literate. The students of English Access Micro-scholarship Program (EAMP) also held a literacy walk to observe the International Literacy Day at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad. The EAMP in collaboration with US Department of State is designed to provide a significant English language learning experience to the students of grade 8 to 10.
