LAHORE  - Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Tuesday moved a petition in the Lahore High Court challenging newly promulgated Punjab Local Bodies polls law for holding election on non-party basis.

The petition has been moved by PTI Punjab President Ijaz Chaudhry. The petitioner through his counsel stated that the Punjab Assembly on August 21st had passed the law for holding Local Bodies election on non-party basis.

He stated that this law was passed by turning down a series of amendments for party-based elections. He stated that the Provincial Assembly could not pass a law for holding non-party based polls as it was in violation of the Constitution.

He said that many of provisions of new law are unconstitutional which have been introduced just to make the Local Government system ineffective. He requested the court to declare such provisions in new LB law conflicting with Constitution and order holding the Local Government election at the earliest and on party basis.
