LAHORE - Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehhaz Sharif has predicted release of former prime minister and the Party Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif soon.
Nawaz Sharif along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar is serving jail in Adiala after conviction in Avenfield reference by the accountability court Islamabad. He has been in Jail since July 13.
Hamza claimed PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam had been sent to prison as a result of a decision which exonerated them from all corruption charges and it spoke volumes regarding merits of the decision. He said the struggle for freedom of Nawaz and Maryam would continue exploiting all channels including courts and the issue would also be raised in assemblies.
Talking to media at the residence of old workers of the party, Jahangir Ghauri, here Monday Hamza said Nawaz Sharif will soon be among public.
He reiterated demand for formation of a commission to probe the election ‘rigging’, for which he added, Imran Khan himself had given assurance to PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif. “We will not let the government digest rigging issue and raise voice for setting up commission inside and outside the Parliament,” he said. Hamza also picked holes in the government drive for constructing Bhasha Dam through public donations, saying, “It is a project of $12billion and not merely of Rs 12crore which could be completed like Shaukat Khanum Hospital by raising funds. It is not a charity drive.” He said a comprehensive planning was required to build a dam and the government did not have that knowledge. He added the PTI government had record of backing out from the promises made with the people and the KP government of this party over the last five years was a glaring example. It was the PML-N government that added 12000MW of electricity in the national system and ended the scourge of loadshedding from the country. “It is ill-planning of the present government that urban and rural areas were witnessing loadshedding of seven and 14 hours throughout the country. “
Hamza Shehbaz said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in his tenure had provided Rs130billion for the purchase of land for Bhasha Dam while Shehbaz Sharif as chief minister saved billion of rupees in the energy projects. He also challenged the government on the alleged lavish spending during the PML-N government.
Hamza said PTI leader Aleem Khan was used to grabbing land and now had been given a task of hijacking the local government system, which would not be allowed at any cost.
He warned Punjab government against termination of local government system in the province saying, the PML-N will resist this move tooth and nail.
He said people of Pakistan had already tasted ‘Tabdeeli’ in the form of massive load-shedding and exponential increase in the price of gas and electricity. The prime minsiter would soon realize that alleging and cursing from the top of a container was different than actually running the affairs of a country and being accountable for it.
