The U.S. military says international and Afghan army forces have killed four militants in southern Afghanistan. The troops were attacked by gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades Saturday while patrolling in Shinkay district of Zabul province. A U.S. statement issued late that night says the forces shot back at their assailants and called in close-air support. Though the U.S. statement says four militants died in the battle, the provincial police chief says he has reports of as many as 22 Taliban killed.
