ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif would be holding a crucial meeting here on Sunday to define the parameters of their future relations both in Punjab and Centre, sources in Prime Minister Secretariat informed The Nation. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has invited Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, who is also President of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) on lunch at Prime Ministers House where he would formally extend invitation to PML(N) to rejoin the Federal Cabinet as the reason for which they had parted ways with PPP-led coalition government no more exist. The sources in the PPP disclosed to The Nation that Premier Gilani would link the PPP stay in the Punjab Government with the return of the PML(N) in Federal Government as decided in the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentary meeting held a few days back at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The sources in PPP and PML(N) said that both the parties were already in negotiations over the thorny issues and this meeting was aimed at diluting the bitterness created between the two parties over the restoration of deposed judges of superior judiciary. These sources further said that PML(N) was not ready to join the government till the time of striking down of controversial 17th Amendment and Article 58(2)B from the Constitution. The sources said that PPP wanted PML(N) back in the Government at Federal level as part of the greater reconciliation plan adopted by the PPP government for steering the country out of prevailing political crises. The sources in he PML(N) said that Mian Nawaz Sharif was still sceptical about the PPP and before joining the Federal Government, wanted annulment of 17th Amendment, Article 58(2)B and complete implementation of Charter of Democracy, while PPP leadership wanted them back in the Federal Government forthwith and that was the reason they had linked their stay in the Punjab Government to it. The sources in the PPP disclosed that in the Parliamentary Party meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari, the MPs belonging to Punjab were of the view that they should remain part of the Punjab Government only if the PML(N) would reciprocate at the Centre. The political analysts said that evolving consensus on the 18th Constitutional Amendment and getting it through from the Parliament was not an easy job and that was the reason the PML(N) leadership was reluctant to join he Federal Government and was adopting the policy of keeping pressure on PPP government while sitting on the opposition benches in the Parliament. Some sources in the PPP said that one of the major reason PPP wanted PML(N) back in the government was that they wanted PML(N) to shoulder the criticism and public disapproval of the difficult steps they were compelled to take both at domestic and international front. The political analysts were according great importance to the meeting of Premier Gilani and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday(today) but at the same time they were not expecting some major decisions as a result of this meeting and they would be requiring more meetings to find some common ground.
