Pakistan is playing five ODIs and one Twenty-Twenty match against Australia in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from April 22 to May 7. Here is a glimpse of what we are up against: three of the top batsmen in Australian team, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, and Michael Hussey have between them scored 18,517 runs, 31 centuries, and 118 fifties in 559 ODI matches. Their respective batting averages per ODI are 42.72, 42.00, and 55.15. They have a deadly, bowling attack with the trio of Nathan Bracken, Mitchell Johnson, and Michael Clarke even though the squad would not include Brett Lee and Andrew Symonds. Australia is in great touch as its boys have been playing non-stop international cricket for a while. Unfortunately, our cricketers have been missing international cricket for the most part of the last year and a half. In view of all this, our cricket team selectors should not take it lightly and must choose the best players they have by tabulating the players statistics available to them. They should have their eyes set on winning the upcoming series and should not test players for future, as some previous selection committees have done in the past. We have first class cricket of high caliber to prepare and test players, while we must play Tests, ODIs, and international Twenty-Twenty matches to give it the best shot. As always, our selectors are on trial too -SYED AQEEL SARWAR, Lahore, April 10.
