LAHORE - India, after a tough contest with their arch rivals Pakistan, succeeded in qualifying for the final of the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament here on Saturday. India and Malaysia reached to the final while Pakistan and New Zealand will play the match for third and fourth position. India beat Pakistan by 2-1 in the last pool match, while Malaysia and New Zealand played 1-1 draw at Ipoh, Malaysia on Saturday. India managed to defeat Pakistan through a goal from Sandeep Singh just a few minutes before the end of the match. India were leading the game in the first half 1-0 but in the 50th minute during the second half, Abbas Haider helped Pakistan level the match. However, India took the lead again in the 29th minute and in the 60th minute scored the second goal and Pakistan could not stop them entering into the final of the tournament. Both goals for India were scored by Sandeep Singh. India got three penalty corners in the match, while Pakistan did not succeeded to secure any penalty corner. Pakistan will now play the last match for third position on Sunday at 0130pm (PST). The second match between Malaysia and New Zealand ended in 1-1 draw. At the end of the first half the score was 0-0.
