KARACHI - Citizens are panicked due to anonymous threats of violence looming in the City while police and political activists are prepared to deal future threats. According to the report, current political turmoil and the sudden change in the statements of police high ups boost up the fear among the people of Karachi. IGP Sindh Salahuddin Baber Khattak reaffirmed the possibility of terrorism directed to set up the temporary check posts. Skirmishes between the rival groups have been continued in various areas of the City. The major causes behind the clashes remain same as economical interests of both groups drive them towards the clash, while some of the clashes that took place in early past are causing political domination. The first clash took place on the 25th anniversary of MQM here in the limits of Shahrah-e-Noorjahan police station, when some unknown rival assailants resorted indiscriminate firing on the rally of MQM in which more than one and a half dozen people including personnel of law enforcement agencies were injured and one succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the clash, some four other people were later killed in the same area in another incident. The area was considerably divided between the two dominated rival groups. The hilltop area of the said police jurisdiction is dominated by Pushtoon, while the area located in front of the hilltop is totally dominated by the Urdu-speaking people. The major incidents took place in last couple of weeks including clashes at Rabia City apartment Gulistan-e-Jauhar, where some 3 people had lost their lives. It is pertinent to mention here that various business hubs and shops of a particular group have been targeted and unknown miscreants threw petrol bombs in Quaidabad area. It is pertinent to mention here that Parchi system is rampant across the City and a newly strengthened ethnic group, under the cover of political parties, is distributing Parchies among the businessmen of the City. Some two businessmen were reportedly killed when they refused to pay the amount and raised up the voice against the extortionists, while the incident took place here in Sohrab Goth police jurisdiction. Moreover, the second incident taken place in Bahadurabad area. Police remained silent while portraying both the murders as personnel enmity. While Gulshan town police have arrested some six persons involved in such sort of crime under the cover of a political party and registered cases against three of them and the other three were freed taking benefit of doubt. Qari Saleem, a shop owner at Bahadurabad, told The Nation that miscreants distributed the parchies of Rs25,000 among the shops located in Bahadurabad and when we contacted the seniors of their party, they declined to own them as their activists. It is to be noted that not only the said groups, but also other political parties have been occupying the empty lands here in Gadap Town, Malir Town, Surjani Town, Orangi Town and North Nazimabad Town. The lands became the major cause of dispute among the political parties. The current turmoil suggests that the upcoming violence would divide the City into various warlords.
