INDIA is developing a sub-sonic cruise missile with a range of 1,000 kilometres. The one-ton missile is to be called Nirbhay, which translates into Without Fear, VK Saraswat, chief of Indias state-run Defence Research and Development Organisation, was quoted as saying by PTI news agency on Sunday. Nirbhay would be part of Indias indigenously developed missile defence system, he said. Saraswat, however, added that to make the defence system effective India needed to deploy space-based sensors for tracking enemy movements. Unless we prepare ourselves for future space-based systems, security is going to be a major issue, Saraswat said.
