LAHORE The masses might not have taken to the streets had the government initiated practical steps to solve the problems of loadshedding and price-hike, as no solid projects were launched in this regard in two years, remarked PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif. He expressed these views while talking to a 30-member delegation of Korangi Association for Trade and Industry, Karachi, which called on him at his residence in Raiwind on Sunday. SM Munir led the team of the businessmen from Karachi. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and Senator Pervaiz Rasheed were also present in the meeting. PML-N Chief stressed the need for taking solid steps to devise comprehensive strategy aimed at boosting the activities of trade and industry, as the loadshedding, increasing tariff of electricity, prices petroleum products and raw material had already impacted negatively on our productions. He said poverty, unemployment and hunger would further blight the lives of the people if the monster of loadshedding was not controlled. Nawaz Sharif said the best and comprehensive strategies were required to boost up the trade and industry activities, as the economy of the country could not be improved without putting the stated sectors on the fast track. He said PML-N was completely aware of the problems being faced by the trader and business community and firmly believed in the fact that without solving the issues of this community the country could not make nay strides. According to him, the Government should take into confidence the experts on economy, traders and industrialists vis-a-vis their commitments and dealings with international monetary organizations including IMF. He underscored the need for ensuring provision of clean drinking water, education and health facilities and low price homes to the masses. He told the delegation that PML-N has constituted think-tanks which would suggest measures for improving economy, education, health, technology and eliminating poverty. Members of the delegation congratulated Nawaz Sharif on the approval of the 18th amendment and appreciated his role for pursuing the politics of principles. The delegation apprised the PML-N Chief of their apprehensions regarding Value Added Tax, asking him to tell the Government to look into the proposals of their community in this regard. The delegation also appreciated the steps taken by Chief Minister Punjab for the welfare of the people.
