LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that service to humanity is also a form of worship and Punjab government has initiated revolutionary welfare projects for providing relief to the laymen. He said the number of Sasti Roti Tandoors will be increased in canteens, hospitals, railway stations, bus stands and poor localities to benefit the poor masses. He said Sasti Roti Programme has been started for providing relief to the poorest of the poor. He said that Mohalla Committees comprising five members will monitor ten Tandoors and all Commissioner and District Coordination Officers will be duty bound to send a monthly report regarding Sasti Roti Scheme in their respective areas. He said that Sasti Roti Scheme is a massive programme of public welfare and Commissioners and DCOs should play an active role for the success of the project. He was presiding over a meeting regarding Sasti Roti, here today. Provincial Minister for Food Malik Nadeem Kamran, Minister for Law Rana Sana Ullah Khan, Assembly Members, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretaries of Industries, Food and Information departments, Commissioner and DCO Lahore as well as other officers concerned were also present. Secretary Industries gave a detailed briefing regarding implementation of the decisions taken in the last meeting regarding Sasti Roti Scheme. The Chief Minister said that Sasti Roti Scheme is a revolutionary project of public service and has been started to provide relief to the poorest of the poor. He said that Sasti Roti Programme will be made more effective and transparent. He said that the common man is facing serious problems and such projects are of vital importance for providing him relief. He said that Mohallah Committees are of key importance for Sasti Roti Programme and the process of their formation should be completed by April 20. He directed that nine Vice Chairmen should also be appointed for assisting Chairman Sasti Roti Authority while coordinators for Sasti Roti Scheme will also be appointed in all districts of the province. He said that identity cards will also be issued to Mohallah Committees so that they could perform their responsibilities efficiently. He said that in case of any irregularity, not only registration of the Tandoor will be cancelled but the concerned Mohallah Committee will also be dissolved while those committees showing better performance will be encouraged. He said that provision of basic facilities to the people is the responsibility of the government and any amount of progress will be useless if the government failed to provide Roti and Dal to the poor at affordable rate. He directed Chief Secretary to consider import and sale of pulses in Aitwar bazaar at subsidized rate. He said that price control committee should be fully activated for controlling prices of essential items. The participants of the committee gave their proposals regarding Sasti Roti Scheme.
