Lahore High Court Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik has said that the bench and the bar are compulsory for the provision of immediate justice thus the lawyers should coordinate with the judiciary for the purpose.

Strikes are not solution to the problems rather cause distrustfulness of a common man on the judicial system and other state institutions, he said. “We should remove that perception by strengthening the hands of the judiciary so as to improve the system,” he said while addressing a meeting here.

The chief justice added that he had apprehension over the problems of the lawyers’ community. He said that litigants were not hopeful about having justice; lawyers are responsible for playing key role in provision of justice to restore their confidence in the judicial system. He said that the judiciary and lawyers have fundamental responsibility to set precedent by providing inexpensive and early justice for all.

The LHC chief justice said that hopelessness and disappointment were prevailed among the aggrieved parties due to late provision of justice.

The complainants who come in the courts from remote areas become dejected when they have to face strike by the lawyers and return disappointed. He said that he had complete knowledge of the concerns of lawyers but he did not do something alone. However, he added, a committee had been formed to establish the High Court Bench in Sargodha Division. “We would do our best along with the other stakeholders to find a legal and constitutional solution to the issue on the recommendation of the committee,” he said.

“Basically, I am a lawyer and I am proud of it. I am among the lawyers and would remain a lawyer after returning back from the post of judge. Judges should give hounor and respect to the lawyers and the judicial system should be improved with joint efforts,” he said.

He urged the lawyers to adopt the way of argument for their demands. On the occasion, DBA President Arshad Ali Hanjra informed the judge about their demands. Justice Ejazul Hassan, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Masood Jahangir, District and Sessions Judge Sardar Tahir Sabir were also present.
