LAHORE - Punjab Minister for Education and Archaeology Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan has said that the government will provide all available funds for renovation of historical and tourist sites.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting regarding renovation of Harappa Museum Sahiwal. Managing Director Tourism Ahmer Malik, renowned archaeologist, Professor Rafiq Mughal, Director Archaeology Salim-ul-Haq and Curator Harappa Museum Muhammad Hassan were present on the occasion.

The minister said that nations are recognized by their heritage. There are several historical sites of national and international significance in Punjab and the government is taking all possible steps for their renovation, he added.

“The Punjab government is taking several steps to enhance public interest in archaeological and tourist sites. Soft image of Pakistan can be developed by focusing on the tourism sector. Moreover, huge revenue can also be collected through betterment of archaeological sites,” he added.

The minister instructed to improve entrance of Harappa museum and beef up its security. He directed MD Tourism Ahmer Malik to visit Harappa Museum and prepare a comprehensive plan for its improvement. He said that quality would not be compromised in renovation of museum and negligence would not be tolerated in this regard.

Rana Mashhood instructed the tourism department to make information desk in the museum and prepare documentary film with the coordination of COMSATS University.

He also directed to organise road shows to create awareness among masses. Curator Harappa Museum Muhammad Hassan briefed the meeting about the performance of the museum.
