GILGIT  - Opposition political parties in Gilgit Baltistan have decided to stage protest demonstrations during Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Gilgit. Member of Gilgit Baltistan Council and PPP provisional leader Amjad Husain told The Nation that Prime Minister  Nawaz Sharif’s visit prior to elections is tantamount to pre-polls rigging. He said that Nawaz’s visit will influence public opening as he would announce mega projects aimed at luring people to cast votes for his party during elections in Gilgit Baltistan.

Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf also accused the PML-N-led central government of victimising political opponents in Gilgit Baltistan.  Talking to media persons, PTI provincial leader  Mirza Hussain said that the prime minister was planning to crush opposition parties in Gilgit Baltistan. He said that PTI, PPP, MWM and other political parties would make political alliance in G-B to make joint strategy to frustrate rigging plan of the ruling party.

Meanwhile, Governor G-B Baarjes Taher said that he did not have any role in politics as a governor.

He stated this during an oath-taking ceremony of the new elected cabinet of Gilgit Press Club on Saturday. He said PML-N wants free and fair election of GBLA.

Earlier, the Gilgit-Baltistan police have chalked out a comprehensive security plan to ensure foolproof security to prime minister. Special security equipment have been brought from Islamabad for this purpose,” Mubarak Jan, Spokesman of GB Police told The Nation.

He said that a high-level meeting was held at the Central Police Office to formulate security plan for the PM’s visit to the area.

He said that IG Police Gilgit-Baltistan Capt(Retd) Zafar Iqbal Awan presided over the meeting which was also attended by Inam-ur-Rehman Malik, DIG HQs, SSP Danishwar, SSP Mansoor, SP Gilgit Muhammad Ishaq, SP Abdur Rahim, AIG CID Sher Khan and SP traffic Tahira Yasubuddin.
