LAHORE - The Evacuee Trust Property Board has retrieved 600 kanal area from land grabbers in Lahore and Nankana Sahib while an operation is also underway in Karachi, chairman Siddiq-ul-Farooq said yesterday.

Talking to the journalists after 298th meeting of ETPB here, Farooq said that 400 kanals land was evacuated in Nankana Sahib while 200 kanals in Lahore. He was of the view that pieces of land which have been fallen in urban areas would be commercialized or urbanized to increase the income of ETPB.

He also informed that proposals regarding amendment in laws of agricultural and urban lands of ETPB were presented in the board meeting. After approval of the board the same would be sent to federal government for further action, he added.

Col (r) Mubashir Javed, Ch Bashir Ahmad, Secretary Javed Bashir, Deputy Secretary Ch Muhammad Boota and other senior officers of the board were present on the occasion.

To a question, Farooq said that though illegal occupation on board land was also in other cities of the countries, the ETPB was getting its land back from all sorts of occupants irrespective of their rank and station.

That was the reason that people from Sohrab Goth Karachi were contacting ETPB management for development on their ETPB leased land.

40 kanal land retrieved: The City District Government Lahore retrieved a land, stretching on 40 kanals, from land grabbers during operation in Harbanspura area yesterday.

A CDGL team, headed by Assistant Commissioner (Shalimar) Arshad Bhatti, demolished dozens of houses constructed on the government land.

The Ravi Town Municipal Administration removed temporary and permanent encroachment from Service Road on both sides of GT Road.

DCO Capt (r) Muhammad Usman appreciated district and town administration for retrieving government land and removing encroachment from major city road. He directed the officials to continue operation and check re-emergence of encroachments.
