A large number of consumers including women protested against the issuance of inflated electricity bills that were later set on fire during the demonstration in Daska here the other day.

They chanted slogans against Gepco officials and federal government. They also burnt their electricity bills. The protesting consumers said that Gepco issued electricity bills for this month with excessive units. Moreover, most of these bills were delivered to the consumers Saturday evening as they could got corrected the bills from Gepco offices.

They said that they were unable to get their excessive bills corrected by the Gepco due to holiday of Sunday while April 12 is last date for the payment of bills.

They also urged Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Wapda Chairman Zafar Mehmood to look into the matter for giving financial relief to the perturbed consumers. When contacted, Gepco officials averted to give any comment.
