LAHORE: The Lahore High Court today issued notice to federal government, Customs Collector and Customs Intelligence to submit documents in a petition challenging payment of extra duty tax to the custom collectors on goods imported from different countries.

Justice Shahid Jamil of the LHC passed the order on a petition filed by Zain Enterprise. The judge adjourned further hearing until April 20. During the course of hearing, Advocate Sheraz Zaka told the judge that valuation of imported goods at Karachi, Islamabad and Multan was taking place at house airway bill. But the importers in Lahore were paying three times more duty at master airway bill which was confiscatory and a discriminatory practice.  He argued that the whole custom department including Customs Collector and Customs Intelligence Inspector Mian yasin had exploited the whole situation to their vested interests.  He said the Customs Department was imposing equal tax on all importers by ignoring the weight of different goods. He requested the court to order the department concerned to submit documents by explaining as to what procedure they adopted while charging duty on importers’ goods.
