LHC seeks govt reply in plea against petrol price increase

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court sought reply from the federal government today in a petition challenging recent increase in petroleum products.  A local citizen had filed the petition. He submitted that oil prices were decreasing in international markets but the federal government increased oil prices in the country. He stated the inflationary impact had made people’ lives miserable. Majority of the people were living from hand to mouth but the government instead of taking measure to control inflation was increasing POL prices. He said the recent increase in prices was unjustified and unlawful. The petitioner prayed to the court to order the government to withdraw its new notification regarding increase in POL prices in larger public interest.

After hearing initial arguments, the LHC issued notice to the federal government and sought reply. The court adjourned further hearing until April 18.
