LAHORE: Watan Party today challenged Women Protection Act, 2016 before the Supreme Court Lahore registry.

Barrister Zafarullah Khan, leader of the party, filed the petition in the SC saying that that Women Protection Act was against Quran and Sunnah. He said the rights of the women especially inheritance rights and others had been described in detail in different Surah of Quran-i-Kareem including Surah Baqara, Surah Nisa and Surah Al-Talaq. He said there was no need of any other law except Quran that had completely described their rights. The lawyer-petitioner said that all those societies where laws related to the women’ rights were made contrary to Quran and Sunnah lost their respect and glory and got destroyed. He requested the SC to declare the Act as null and void for being un-Islamic.
