People elected Raja Pervez Ashraf, the Minister of Power, with a heavy mandate. They have every right to ask him the following questions; 1. There was no load shedding of this magnitude during the last few years. Why so this year? 2. If load shedding is a must, why isn't it being shared equally by all sections of society. Some localities have 4 hours of load shedding while others suffer for 5-6 hours. Why? 3. Our rulers must also have a taste of load shedding. Their expensive generators should be stopped during load shedding hours. Can that be done? 4. Load shedding should be planned in such a way that the interval in between is long enough, say at least 2 hours, for the emergency lights etc. to be properly recharged. Can he ensure that? 5. Last but not least, the electricity bills should be prepared keeping in mind the 5/6 hours of load shedding. How about that? -COL (Retd) R.M. AKHTAR, Lahore, August 8.
