LAHORE - As many as two members of a kidnapper gang were killed in an encounter with CIA Police City Division while three of them have been apprehended. According to a handout, Hassan Rana, an engineer of a private TV channel was kidnapped on July 29, 2008 from Allama Iqbal Town Lahore and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 5000,000 from his family. On the direction of CCPO Muhammad Pervez Rathor, DIG Investigation Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhaira constituted a special team headed by SP CIA Muhammad Umar Virk comprising DSP CIA Iqbal Town, Sardar Zaffar Iqbal Dogar. Officers of CIA City especially Sub-inspector Nadeem Akhtar remained in contact with the family of Hassan Rana round-the-clock and briefed them how to receive the ransom calls of the kidnappers. Similarly, operational teams under the supervision of DSP CIA Sadar Zafar Iqbal Dogar and DSP CIA Cantt Mian Athar Farooq also carried out raids at the possible hideouts of the criminals for arrest. It is worth mentioning that the family of the Hassan Rana was so terrified from the threats of the kidnappers that it did not want to involve police in this matter and was ready to pay the ransom. The criminals freed Hassan Rana on 3rd August after receiving ransom money of eight lack 50 thousand rupees. During investigation Hassan Rana informed the police that the kidnappers had taken him to a village of Dipalpur. He also mentioned that a PTCL tower was located in front of the house where he was kept. Keeping in view all this information DSP CIA Iqbal Town traced one of the kidnapper namely Abdul Sattar. The police also planted an informer who persuaded Abdul Sattar to come to Lahore for another crime. Police arrested Abdul Sattar on 10th August when he came to Lahore and during preliminary interrogation the accused confessed to 50 incidents of dacoity and robbery in various areas of the provincial metropolises.  He also disclosed that the rest of his accomplices namely Hafiz Ramzan, Shafiq and Akhtar alias Lukhy were also arriving in Lahore on a white Suzuki car number LRS-2697. On this information CIA teams set up pickets at Riawind and Multan Road. When Hafiz Ramzan, Shafiq and Akhtar alias Lukhy arrived their car was anticipated by the police but they opened fire on the police and try to escape. The police mounted chase and ultimately an encounter took place in which Hafiz Ramzan and Shafiq were killed while Akthar alias Lukhy managed to escape. Five pistols, Kalashnikov and two stolen cars and ransom money of RS 235,000 have been recovered from their possession. Those arrested include Abdul Sattar, Munir Ahmad and Sardar Jaffer. 31 cases have also been traced against Muhammad Ramzan in Lahore, Pakpattan and Bhawalnager. The CCPO has announced award cash prizes and commendatory certificates to the police teams.
