LAHORE - In yet another ugly episode demonstrating lawyers highhandedness, a group of black coats thrashed a cop, tore his uniform and succeeded in freeing an accused from the clutches of a Sub-Inspector earlier caught after Chief Justice Lahore High Court rejected his bail in a murder case. This incident indicates that there is no end to infliction of violence by lawyers, particularly against police and journalists as they both have fallen prey to lawyers vandalism over the past couple of weeks. SI, Riasat Ali of Sahiwala police station Faisalabad had brought record of a murder case which he produced in the court of Chief Justice during the hearing of interim bail of the accused Ghulam Hussain. The court rejected his bail after hearing arguments of both sides and going through the record of the case. The cop arrested the accused as he reached outside court premises at Turner Road. All of sudden a group of lawyers led by Tariq Mahmood Bosal advocate and Shahid Khaloon advocate attacked the SI and gave him a good thrashing. The cop was beaten up by kicks and fists, and said they would not let him take the accused with him. They also snatched his mobile and case record before tearing his uniform. The SI could not resist the torture too long and gave up. The lawyers escaped from the scene alongwith the accused Ghulam Hussain. SI came back to CJ court and complained about the lawyers manhandling. CJ asked him to adopt legal course against the wrong-doers. SI then went to Mozang police station and lodged a complaint against lawyers. The police registered a case but no arrested has been made so far. This has been the fourth incident in which lawyers either beat policemen or journalists. On July 29, lawyers beat a cop at sessions court premises and the journalists captured footage of the incident and telecast on different news channels. On very next day, the lawyers attacked journalists to teach them a lesson for airing the footage. A case was registered with Islampura police against lawyers. Few days later the lawyers again went on the rampage and slapped journalists and hurled abuses in a bid to stop them from taking footage of an incident.
