LAHORE - Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hasan has said that just condemnation of terrorism or employing military operations could not eliminate the problem. He was addressing a ceremony organised by the Islami Jamiat Talaba to mark the advent of Ramazan here on Wednesday. Munawar Hasan said all were talking about dialogue with Afghan Taliban, whose names were being rubbed off the UNs terrorists and foreign forces were giving timetable of their departure on the demand of the Taliban. But, he regretted, that the option was not being given a chance in Pakistans tribal areas where use of force was further worsening the situation. He said if situation in Swat, as being claimed in ISPR briefings, had improved then free media should be allowed access to the valley and army troops should be withdrawn. Expressing concerns at the rising presence of US marines in Islamabad, he alleged that the American embassy had been converted into a cantonment. He said the US defence minister was admitting Blackwaters operations in Pakistan but interior minister Rehman Malik was denying the private militias role here. He said there was no dearth of resources in the country but these could not trickle down to the masses because of corruption. Urging the people to observe Friday (Aug 13) as 'repentance day to seek Allahs blessings for the help of the flood victims, he lamented that the rulers were either enjoying lavish foreign visits or were busy in taking aerial view of the suffering humanity. He said unlike in the 2005 earthquake the people were not responding to the governments call for donations for the flood victims because they had lost trust in the rulers. The confidence, he said, could be restored if the government implemented the Supreme Court verdict on defamed National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO). He said Zardari regime is in fact continuation of Musharraf rule as there is not let up in accomplishing the US agenda in the region.
