Quaid's speech being presented out of context: Prof Ahsan

LAHORE - Renowned scholar Prof Humayoun Ahsan has said that the speech of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on August 11, 1947 was being presented by some opponents without reference to its actual context to mislead the nation. He said the Quaid was never a secular person and wanted to make the country a modern Islamic democratic State. He was addressing a sitting at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehrik-e-Pakistan on Wednesday which was jointly organised by Nazria Pakistan Trust and Tehrik-e-Pakistan Workers Trust. The sitting was presided over by the Pakistan Movement Worker Brig (r) Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry. Vice Chairman NPT Dr Rafique, Secretary NPT Shahid Rasheed and Mirza Ibrahim were also present on the occasion. The students of Bright Way Grammar School New Jail Road attended the ceremony. While referring to the Jinnahs 'historic speech on August 11 and its important points, Prof Ahsan quoted Quaid speech as 'the Muslims are now sovereign nation and have big responsibility on their shoulders of saving every individuals life and property, adding the Quaid intended that in Pakistan no-one would be deprived of his basic rights. He said curses of sectarianism, nepotism and corruption should be eliminated from the society. Brig (r) Zafar Iqbal while depicting some points of Quaids speech said it did not prove Quaid-e-Azam as a secular person. He said Quaid, on many occasions, described Pakistan would be an Islamic democratic State. Dr Rafique also advocated Quaids vision of making Pakistan an Islamic State instead of a secular one. He cited many references from Quaids life which proved a great leader with a vision of Islam and Pakistan. Mirza Ibrahim asked the youth to study the Pakistan Movement and learn from the sacrifices of the elders. Earlier, Shahid Rasheed welcomed the speakers and guests at Aiwan and introduced them about the relief activities by the NPT for the flood affectees.
