ISLAMABAD - The first Independence Day Tennis challenge Cup will be played on August 13 between Islamabad Green and Islamabad White at Pakistan Sports Board Tennis Complex. Media singles match will be played between Mohsin Ali and Shahbaz Bhatti both from TheNation, while women singles match will be played between two forefingers namely Marliina of Sweden against Catriinano of Italy. Men's singles foreigners match will be played between Magnus Wood of Belgium and Martin Read of France. Men's singles match will be played between Jibranul Haq and Kamran Suhail. In junior U-18 singles Kashanul Haq will face Mehmood Ahmed while in Boys U-12 singles match will be held between Aayan Saeed and Aadil Saleem. In the ladies singles Tazeem Akhtar will meet Ayesha Masood. This event is regularly organized every year to mark Independence Day celebrations. Hameeul Haq, former Davis Cupper and recipient of Pride of Performance is the tournament director and chief organizer. Talking exclusively with TheNation on Thursday Hameed said: The main aim of organizing this event every year is to let every one know that Pakistan is a peaceful country and by involving foreigners this will give a very clear message to rest of the world that Pakistan is completely safe for all kinds of sporting activities. He further said that cash prizes along with trophies will be given to the participants of the event to celebrate our Independence Day in a befitting manner, he concluded.
