Our Staff Reporter MIRPUR (AJK) - The District Administration Thursday categorically denied some electronic media reports about any breach in Mangla Dam at Chitterpari in Mirpur following torrential monsoon rains. Clarifying the reports, aired by some radio and TV channels Thursday morning, Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tayyeb Chaudhry, quoting experts of the Wapda and Mangla Dam Organization, told TheNation that it was a seepage point of the dam, installed in the formal design since the construction of the Mangla Dam and which starts functioning as a result of torrential rains and stops working automatically after the rains. The DC categorically declared that there was no danger to the dam since no any sort of breach has developed in the dam. Tayyeb said that after the reports, Chief Engineer Mangla Dam organization Sheikh Altaf, Project Director Mangla Dam Raising Project Abdul Rashid Bangish, ADC (G) Mirpur Raja Saqib Munir and engineers of AJK Highways Department rushed to the site at Chitterpari Thursday morning to investigate the situation and found no any breach in the dam. Rather the seepage point had started functioning following the heavy rains experienced the city and rest of district on mid night of Wednesday and Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner added quoting experts from Mangla Dam Organisation (MDO). He said that the flow of water was gradually reducing and there was no any danger to the dam. At the same time, when contacted, Project Director Mangla Dam Raising Project Abdul Rasheed Bangash told this correspondent over telephone from Mangla that it was sag point where the heavy rainwater had gathered and its intensity also affected the road passing through Chitterpari Town.
