Unannounced loadshedding

The Prime Minister has ordered an end to unannounced loadshedding. This means that if the voltage in a grid station goes below the danger point at an unannounced time, for reasons beyond the control of the SDO, he will not shed load at the grid station. Continued operation at low voltage may cause damage to the grid station equipment as well as to the household equipment of the customers. In any electrical equipment, for the same wattage, if the voltage drops, the amperes increase causing overheating of the equipment and possible burn out. I am surprised that Wapda is unable to get across this simple point to the non technical ministers. ENGR KHURSHID ANWER, Lahore, August 7.
