800-kg unhygienic meat seized; two held

RAWALPINDI - A team of district health department along with police and officials of Sihala Slaughter House seized some 800-kg unhygienic meat at Pirwahdai Bus Terminal and held vehicle driver and cleaner here on Saturday.
A case has also been registered against two butchers under section 269, 270 & 278 of CRPC and Local Government Ordinance 2001 section 141 (17 & 18) for supplying unhygienic meat and store in unhygienic condition.
According to an official of DHD, the water filled meat, was brought from Bhakar, was being supplied in the market to sale out to the consumers.
DHD Officials, while talking to The Nation, said that on a tip off, the raiding team raided at Pirwadhai Bus Terminal and grabbed the substandard meat that was brought in bus bearing registration number NWFP-G 1952. The bus driver Zegham Hussain and the cleaner Amir Hussain were nabbed on the spot whereas the owner managed to flee from the scene. The arrested persons were shifted to Police Station (PS) Pirwadhai for integration.
Later, veterinary doctors were called who checked the meat and declared it unfit for human consumption. The officials discarded the meat at the spot while burning it, he added.
However police started a hunt for two butchers Muhammad Awais and Muhammad Irfan, who run away.
