Drive for Bahawalpur province after Eid

AHMEDPUR EAST - Rising above the political divide, a vigorous movement for the accomplishment of the twin goals of the restoration of Bahawalpur provincial status and implementation of a ‘new system and new leadership’ plan will be launched after Eidul Fitr.
The decision was made in a meeting between Muhammad Ali Durrani, the leader of the Movement for Restoration of Bahawalpur Province and former federal minister, and a delegation led by former MPA of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and chairman of the Chief Minister’s Task Force Samiullah Ch. The delegation, which met with Muhammad Ali Durrani at his residence here, included Muhammad Tahir and Qayyum Azam.
Thanking Senate Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari on behalf of the people of Bahawalpur, Durrani said that the implementation of the unanimous resolution of the Punjab Assembly had started with the step of finalization of names for the Commission on the Restoration of Bahawalpur Province and submission of the same to the National Assembly speaker.”The people nominated for the commission are highly respectable, competent and intelligent members of the Senate and besides being democratic, their thinking is also people-friendly,” he elaborated. “The Punjab government has made the history by getting passed the resolution for restoration of Bahawalpur province from the assembly unanimously, which will never be forgotten. People of Bahawalpur are thankful to PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for this,” he added.
Durrani said that by unanimously adopting the resolution, the PPP and other parties had proven that all political parties and elected representatives were cognizant of the people’s right and to reject the injustice and cruelty that was committed against them by Yahya Khan. He said the unanimous adoption of the resolution for the restoration of the province was indeed a victory of both the people of Bahawalpur and democracy.
“God willing, the commission for the restoration of the province will be appointed during the month of August and it will submit its report to the National Assembly within 30 days in the shape of a constitutional amendment,” hoped Durrani. He said that all major parties having representation in the NA and Senate had already supported the cause in the Punjab Assembly so there was no hurdle in the way of the passage of this constitutional amendment by the Parliament,” he noted.
Following the passage of the constitutional amendment by the Parliament, he said, an amendment would be passed by the Punjab Assembly paving the way for signing by the President. Thus, he added, the Bahawalpur province would stand restored in the tenure of the existing assemblies and 2012 would be the year of restoration of Bahawalpur province. “After its restoration, the Bahawalpur province will turn to be a model Islamic welfare province in the light of the thoughts of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Under the ‘new system and new leadership’ plan, the power will be shared with the people in the real sense,” said the former federal minister.
On the occasion, Samiullah Ch said that the Punjab government had added a golden chapter to the history of the country through the unanimous adoption of the resolution for the restoration of the Bahawalpur province and credit for this goes to Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. He said the role played by the PML-N president and the Punjab CM would always be remembered by the people of Bahawalpur.
