N Waziristan operation to be fatal, warns JI

LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan on Saturday expressed deep concern over media reports that the military leadership has decided to launch an operation against miscreants in North Waziristan after Eid and warned that any such attempt would only result in further destruction of the country.
Munawar claimed in a statement that the decision had been taken under American pressure. “The military leadership has finally yielded to the US pressure and decided to launch a military operation in North Waziristan,” he maintained.
Munawar warned that military operation would prove fatal and incur irreparable loss to the security and solidarity of the country. He asserted that the decision had been taken soon after the ISI’s director general’s visit to the United States. “This clearly indicates that the operation in North Waziristan is being launched under the American pressure,” he added.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer demanded of the government to immediately withdraw the decision. “After military operation in North Waziristan, the US would certainly demand another operation in Southern Punjab on the pretext that the terrorists had taken shelter there and later the operation would spread to all parts of the country,” he observed.
Munawar further said the US wanted to spread anarchy in Pakistan to ultimately destroy the country’s nuclear programme.
Also, the Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer condemned the Rangers raid at the Madrassa Darul Uloom, Karachi, being run by Grand Mufti of Pakistan Muhammad Rafi Usmani.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, he said harassment of the Madrassa management and the arrest of two of its students by the Rangers was a great injustice to the person of Mufti Muhammad Rafi’s stature who enjoyed immense respect across the country.
Munawar said the raid was an attempt to tarnish the image of the Madrassa Darul Uloom, and the administration was advancing the US agenda by linking the mosques and seminaries with terrorism. He called for an enquiry into the raid and strict action against those responsible for it.
