LAHORE – Warning police against misuse of power, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has stressed that police force ought to serve public.
“Police must pay heed to public grievances and ensure provision of justice in police stations without any discrimination,” the chief minister said while talking to people who visited his Tent Office on Saturday.
People from various districts of the province visited the chief minister’s office to apprise him of their grievances. He issued on-the-spot orders to solve their problems.  Shahbaz warned police that he would not tolerate injustice and said the police force must produce results since they had been provided funds worth billions of rupees.
He reiterated his government’s resolve to transform the police department into a people-friendly institution. Calling for equality, the chief minister said civilised and developed societies ensured justice for all.
Shahbaz said unfortunately Pakistan had not been transformed into a welfare state as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal despite passage of 65 years. However, he said his party would continue with its fight against injustice to make Pakistan a welfare state. “Ensuring justice is the top priority of the Punjab government and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz,” he added. 
He ordered police to get verification of all heinous crimes through forensic lab as this modern lab, costing billions of rupees, had been installed to ensure scientific investigation of serious crimes. Praising the Sheikhupura district police for arresting culprits from Karachi, who were involved in murder of four persons at Burj Attari, the chief minister announced Rs50,000 each, along with commendatory certificates.
The complainant family appreciated the services of chief minister in ensuring arrest of culprits and thanked him. Ordering free-of-cost medical facility a girl who was injured in a Sargodha firing, Shahbaz Sharif ordered the authorities concerned to vigorously pursue the case, while he ordered a fresh inquiry into the case of a citizen who was killed in police torture in Sargodha.
He also directed the police concerned to immediately recover a man in an abduction case of Bahawalpur, and said that the decision of the case should be made on the basis of merit.
He directed DIG Maj (r) Mubasharullah to present his report in this regard, while in a case of rape at Manga area, the Chief Minister ordered the police to deal the matter on merit. Earlier on his arrival, his supporter shouted slogans for his favour as he continued his work at the Tent Office in rain. MNA Pervaiz Malik and police officers were also present.  Separately, presiding over a meeting held to review security arrangements, the chief minister appreciated the Punjab police to maintain peace on Youm-e-Ali (RA).
Shahbaz said the police and administration deserved congratulation for maintain peace on the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (RA). The chief minister directed the police should utilise all their energies for helping the oppressed people and deal with them politely.
He said modern technology should be benefitted for the eradication of crimes and the government will provide all necessary resources for the purpose. He said protection of life and property of the citizens was the responsibility of police. He said the Punjab government would get rid of the Thana culture and the Lahore police should play role model for the cause.
