Wheelies, silencers banned on 14th


LAHORE – The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) have imposed a ban on doing wheelie and using silencer on the Independence Day being marked across the country on Tuesday.
The spokesman said the CTPL had deployed 2,035 traffic wardens and 124 inspectors under the supervision of 13 deputy superintendents of police to regulate smooth traffic flow on this auspicious occasion.
The wardens have been deputed at different points including Ring Road, GT Road, The Mall, Jail Road, Ferozpur Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Canal Road and other leading arteries of the City.
The spokesman said Lahore CTO Dr Usman Anwar had directed the circle in-charges, senior traffic wardens and other officers to remain alert on August 14 for ensuring smooth vehicular activities. The CTO has also appealed to the parents to ask their children to refrain from taking part in dangerous activities like doing wheelie.
Meanwhile, Satu Katla Police rounded up a notorious drug-peddler and recovered 75 bottles of liquor from his possession on Saturday.
Police investigators said local police raided a hideout on the tip-off and apprehended a peddler later identified as Vikram Masih alias Shaukat Masih, a resident of a village in the Satu Katla area. They said the culprit had been booked and further investigation was underway. Saddar Police Division SP (Operations) Captain (r) Liaqat Ali Malik has announced commendatory certificates and cash prizes for the raiding police teams.
