Pakistan used to have a 5-year development plan on regular basis until it was abolished by Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Such a plan had played a great role in economic progress of the country and all the basic infrastructures like river-dams, roads, schools and colleges etc. existing today came into being as a result of that system. Absence of 5-year plans today is a stark indicator of the incompetence that our national leadership continues to suffer from. They seem only to have their sights set on the country’s public exchequer and finding ways and means to plunder it rather than thinking of long-term methods of using it for national progress. It is high time we revived the national 5-year plan immediately.
