ISLAMABAD - The biometric machines would be used at the selected 30 polling stations of National Assembly constituency-19, Haripur, during the by-elections to be conducted on 16th of this month.

The decision to use these machines was recommended by the Electoral Reforms Committee of the Parliament currently busy proposing changes in the electoral mechanism in the country to ensure more transparency in the elections.

The officials of the Election Commission said on Tuesday that National Database and Registration Authority, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and UFONE will provide technical assistance to the Commission in the use of these machines.

Since, the whole exercise would be performed purely on experimental basis at the selected polling stations, therefore, it would be having no impact on the whole electoral exercise in the constituency.

The ECP has already taken all the contesting candidates on board on the issue and briefed them comprehensively by sharing with them the standard operating procedures (SOP) to use these machines.

All the contesting candidates had welcomed the idea of use of biometrics machines as an experiment and gave their consent in this regard.
