LG Ord challenged


LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has moved the Lahore High Court against Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2015.
Basharat Aziz Jaspal filed a petition in LHC on Tuesday, submitting that sections 2, 4 and 8 of PLGO were contrary to the Article 140-A, 25, and 17 of the Constitution. The petitioner submitted the Punjab government deprived women, workers and youth members through direct election by insertion of the above said section in the Ordinance.
He stated the representation of the people from different walks of life would not be possible after these sections in the law. The candidates for reserved seats had equal legal right to be directly elected through votes of public at large, he submitted.
The petiole prayed the court to set aside the sections 2, 4 and 8 of the impugned ordinance for being ultra vires to the Constitution.–Staff Reporter
